Helping people in Surrey cut down or stop drinking, in a way that works for them

AlcoholWise is a free service designed for adults in Surrey who want help to reduce or stop their alcohol use before it becomes a serious problem. It’s for people who drink more than the recommended limit but aren’t physically dependent on alcohol.

We know that alcohol can affect your health, energy, mood and relationships, even if you’re not drinking every day. That’s why we offer a safe space to talk, reflect, and make changes that last.

What we offer

  • Up to six free, confidential phone or video sessions with a trained NHS alcohol expert

  • Help to set realistic goals and track your progress

  • Support to manage triggers and cravings

  • Tools to build healthier habits and improve your wellbeing

You don’t need a referral or a diagnosis to get started. If you're not sure whether this support is right for you, try the AlcoholWise Test, a quick online tool to help you understand your drinking and what to do next.

Who we are

AlcoholWise is part of the i-access service, which has supported people in Surrey for over 30 years. It’s run by Surrey and Borders Partnership NHS Foundation Trust in partnership with Via, a specialist drug and alcohol charity. The service is commissioned by Surrey County Council.

Our impact

  • Last year, over 200 people accessed support from AlcoholWise

  • 81% of people completing the programme said they felt more in control of their drinking

  • Many tell us they sleep better, feel healthier and more confident after just a few sessions
